WOOO - Teyyy (OT)

1. I just received a sms from a uni friend, asking how is my life, how is the job bla bla stuffs.. She said she is quite busy with her job, especially for the past 2 weeks. So she work OT for the past 2 weeks, everyday until 11pm.. Tired, but learn a lot..

2. I called another uni friend yesterday, we chatted, updating ourselves on each other latest developments (lol this sounds so gheyish), and naturally I asked him about his working life. So I heard another story that another friend seems like very the super busy, because he always do OT until 1am-2am!! I was like.. wtf?

Two examples on how some of my uni friends are doing in their working life. It seems like lots of them love to do OT! Working overtime.. So why this OT culture? I personally prefer not to do OT. I feel that, doing OT is a waste of time, waste of energy, it basically shows that you are not efficient in managing your working time. Why? Because, doing OT shows that you need more time to get a job done. Maybe some of us even think that doing OT = hardworking = Boss love me = $$$ :D :D Lol, I even heard some of my friends doing OT because they can get extra allowance, dinner coupons.. That’s the most farkish, pathetic thing to do in my humble opinion.. So you basically doing OT so you can save for dinner?!!? Come on.. Get a life.. (Er I didn’t say that in front of her..) The answer that I get most of the time when I ask why they do OT is because, everybody is doing it. Their seniors, colleagues… Ahah, If they eat shit for dinner, will you do that too? (I didn’t ask her that too :D :D)

Why I think OT is not relevant and should not be practiced as a working culture.

- Not productive. Working longer hours make us less productive.. try it, working straight 12 hours, the results usually very crappy :D (Maybe it’s only me haha! Others maybe have ultra-man or gaban power to do their job, even working for 15-20 hours :P Salute the zombies..)

- If I am the boss, I think you are wasting my money. I pay you to work for 8 hours a day, so get the job done in 8 hours, if not come back tomorrow, finish it. Staying back, I need to pay for the extra electricity you use. Oh yea, I need to pay for your dinner coupon too. (Hahahaha!) Em, some bosses do give unrealistic deadline for the job to be finished, eventually we have no choice but to do OT. I experienced this few times (sorry boss if you read this.. which I bet you wont :D) Gave me the thing on Friday, want it on Monday morning… .. .. ..  But, unless your boss is farking unreasonable, he wont torture you like that..(I have nothing to say lah if your boss is some kind of undead or bloodsucker vampire type tyhat have nothing better to do but to squeeeze you dry, drained and limp -haha, this sounds so wrong… :D :D :D ) Once or twice.. or few times in a month, is quite reasonable, but not every farking day ask you to do OT. Better quit the job or you will definitely end up looking like 40 years old man when you are only 30… Pathetic heh?

-Boring. Imagine you work from 9am- 5pm5 or 8.30am- 5.30pm (like me), pack your thing back at 6pm (reasonable lah, you need so punctual 5.30 go back meh??), travel back home 30-45 mins (if you are lucky, not traffic jam), arrive at home let say 7pm, take a bath 15-30 mins (depends on how long you wash your precious body :D :D ), take dinner another 30-45 mins, so you can only settle down, relax at around 9-9.30pm.. lepak lepak, read newspaper.. hug your gf, or your dog or your pillow for those dont have gf, time passed.. and it’s bed time, 11-12 pm. Imagine doing this for the rest of your 30-40 years life…Omaigoottt!! I have no life! That’s for ‘normal’ people. How bout those do OT until 11pm -1-2am? Cant imagine..Assuming average life span = 60 years. We spend about 1/3 of our life studying, 1/3 of our life sleeping (yeah.. 6-8 hours a day, roughly there lah.. or maybe more), and the rest working our head off… Great!!! what the purpose in our life then? (Now I sounded so boring.. keh keh keh..)

Aduh this is getting longer.. I better stop here 1st.. continue some other time.. sleepy shiet.. J

    disagree…
Not everybody OT cause kiasu/want extra money/blaabla.
    Sometime really hav no choise…
Client keep asking when can u give them the results…everyday called till u crazy..If cannot finish sure kena ‘tiu’..
so mostly OT is to finish up whatever we can’t finish during working hour..
If given the choice, I rather go back sharp 5.30 everyday..

  2. bOng Says:

It’s ok to do OT when there is need to do so. What I dont feel right is to do OT all the time.. 5 working days.. everyday OT. Until 11pm? Huh.. We can never finish the work given. Settle one, another one come.. so if like that, I guess the solution is OT.. OT.. OT…?? :P
So Chun Pang, Ipoh how? Always kena ‘tiu’ ka? :D Relax lah brader.. when come down yam cha?
